Maybe you love mock drafts, maybe you hate them. I come down more on the side of the former than the latter but it is definitely unwise to put too much stock in them. During the lead up to the 2016 NFL Draft I’ve taken up a series of Detroit Lions seven-round mock drafts not with the intention of trying to project or predict what the team will do or even to be “right”, as if such a thing was possible.

No, I’ve been more interested in playing out different scenarios. For that reason, I’ve purposefully started each seven-round mock draft off with a different position in each version. First it was Alabama middle linebacker Reggie Ragland. Then it was Baylor defensive tackle Andrew Billings. Version three led off with Ohio State offensive tackle Taylor Decker.

What happens with one pick impacts what happens with another. By forcing something different to happen at the top of the board, we can have some fun seeing how different scenarios play out in a full seven-round mock draft.

You can catch up on previous versions if you missed them over the last few weeks or if you want to see them again to do some comparison:
Version 1.0
Version 2.0
Version 3.0

Now let’s get on with version 4.0, this time starting off with a defensive end in the first round.
