Detroit Lions Activate DeAndre Levy From the Active/Non-Football Injury List
By Zac Snyder
The Detroit Lions announced that OLB DeAndre Levy has been activated from the active/non-football injury list, clearing the way for his return to practice.
Linebacker depth has gotten thin for the Detroit Lions throughout training camp – a trend that started when DeAndre Levy was placed on the active/non-football injury list at the start of camp.
While most of camp has been defined by bad news for the linebacker group, there is good news this morning concerning Levy.
The Lions announced today that Levy has been removed from the NFI list. The announcement was sent via press release and a tweet from the team’s official account.
Levy had indicated he was getting close to a return when speaking to the media yesterday, but remained vague about the specifics of his injury or a timetable for his return.

The team and player had given off a feeling of optimism that whatever ailed Levy would be a short-term issue, although that did little to calm Lions fans’ fears given the same rhetoric was offered last season in which Levy didn’t even complete a full game of action.
Being taken off the NFI list means Levy can return to practice, although it would seem unlikely he would see time in the team’s second preseason game this Thursday evening against the Cincinnati Bengals. More likely, Levy will get in some practice today and a full week of practice before next week’s preseason game. That allows him to take part in the team’s third preseason game which is generally regarded as the preseason game used as a dress rehearsal for the regular season.

More importantly, getting Levy back nearly four weeks before the regular season opener is a good sign he will be back to his old self in week one against the Indianapolis Colts.
