Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears: DJC Writer Predictions
By Zac Snyder
The Detroit Jock City writers make their predictions for the Detroit Lions’ week four game at Soldier Field against the Chicago Bears.
The Detroit Lions‘ week one win over the Indianapolis Colts got the season off to a good start but things have been rough since then. A disappointing loss to the Tennessee Titans and a pantsing by the Green Bay Packers later, the Lions need to get back on track in week four against Chicago.
Will they? Here is what the Detroit Jock City writers see ahead for this week’s game.
Matt Pelc (1-2) – This is one of those games I feel confident that the Lions can win, so usually that means they’ll do the opposite and lose. The Bears are a hot mess right now, but the Lions, with all their injuries, are not far behind.

Just looking at the match up without going in-depth, you’d think Matthew Stafford, Marvin Jones (if healthy) & Co. would have a big game against a team that was blown out in two straight games, but Chicago’s defense is not as bad as it would appear, ranking in the middle of the pack in the NFL. Look for the Lions’ defense to have a decent game against Chicago’s backup quarterback, backup running back, and a banged up Alshon Jeffrey.
With their 2015 season-ending victory at Chicago on Jan. 3, the Lions tied their longest all-time win streak against the Bears at six (1968-1970). They will set a new record with their seventh straight on Sunday. Lions win 23-20.
Erik Schlitt (2-1) – The Chicago Bears are a mess right now. Multiple starters are injured and will not play. Even more starters are banged up. And the healthy starters who remain are not fully playing to their potential. Their defense is giving up just over 27 points a game on their way to three straight losses to start 2016.
While the Lions are also dealing with the injury bug, they come into this game healthier than last week. Matthew Stafford is playing great and has been efficient in leading the offense to a 27 points per game average. Even if the defense struggles again, Stafford should be able to lead the Lions to a victory. Lions 31, Bears 17
Matt Snyder (1-2) – The Lions really need a win to keep their season afloat, and the Bears might be the perfect opponent to help them out this week. The Bears are 0-3 with losses by 9, 14, and 15 points. This one will probably be close, but it’s one the Lions should ultimately pull out. Lions win 27-24.
Colton Wesley (2-1) – The Bears are 0-3 for a reason. They’re banged up on both sides of the ball and lack depth across the board. The Lions are missing a couple of key players on defense in Levy and Ansah, but the lackluster Bears offense won’t be able to score enough points to keep it close. Detroit simply has too many playmakers for the Bears to contain, and Chicago’s pass rush isn’t very impressive with so many players out. Lions win, 31-17.
Zac Snyder (2-1) – While the Lions aren’t a total mess, the Bears kind of are. The Bears defense hasn’t allowed fewer than 23 yet this season while the offense hasn’t scored more than 17. The Lions have some issues, but the Bears are an opponent they can get right against, particularly with Jay Cutler and Jeremy Langford out for Chicago. Lions 26, Bears 19
