Detroit Red Wings vs. Florida Panthers: Game Time, TV, Radio, Live Stream
By Mike Rizzo
The Detroit Red Wings face the Florida Panthers tonight at Joe Louis Arena. The Panthers are in flux after firing their coach this week.
The Detroit Red Wings beat the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night 3-1. Dylan Larkin and Anthony Mantha scored for the Red Wings while Steve Ott added a empty netter.
Dallas got on the board first when Esa Lindell scored 16 seconds into the game. That would be all the Stars would get. Petr Mrazek, arguably had his best start of the season as he saved 34 of the 35 shots the Stars had. The only goal he allowed was a fluke as it went off Mike Green, otherwise he was phenomenal.
After losing to Calgary almost two weeks ago the Red Wings have won three of their last four and have gotten points in all four games.
A big reason for this is because the Red Wings are being led by their up and coming stars. Mantha for example has five points in the eight games he’s been on the main roster. He has also scored in three of the last five games. Why he wasn’t up here to begin with is a major reason for my frustrations with this team. This team is clearly better when the young guys get playing time. I really worry that Mantha will be sent down as soon as the Red Wings get healthier.
The players that should be sent down are Steve Ott and Drew Miller, not Anthony Mantha, Tyler Bertuzzi, etc.
Tonight, the Red Wings face a team in flux. The Florida Panthers fired their head coach Gerard Gallant on Sunday, a coach by the way that was a runner up for coach of the year last year.
The Florida Panthers, like the Red Wings, have been inconsistent this season. In fact, the teams have the same exact record. Unlike the Red Wings though, the Florida Panthers have lost three of their last four games and only got points in two of them. As I mentioned above, the Red Wings have won three of their last four games but have gotten points in all four games.
Both teams also have a minus two goal differential, so these two teams are really even. Petr Mrazek is expected to get the start tonight while Jimmy Howard recovers from a groin injury.
The Red Wings are winless against the Panthers in their two meetings this season, including a game where Mrazek was pulled after allowing four goals. Mrazek needs a big game tonight.
