News and Notes
Lions sign CB Butler, add WR Billingsley from practice squad
The Lions tried once again to address the lack of depth at cornerback by signing last year’s Lambeau hero Crezdon Butler earlier this week. Butler will likely immediately see action for the Lions’ defense, especially in the nickel.
Detroit also added to its wide receiver depth by signing rookie UDFA Jace Billingsley to the 53-man roster from the practice squad on Saturday. Billingsley had been on the practice squad since being added to it following the preseason and also has some experience returning kicks. Billingsley fills the spot vacated by Theo Riddick on the roster after the latter was placed on injured reserve. The Lions also added tight end Kennard Backman to the practice squad to fill the spot left by Billingsley.
With Andre Roberts questionable for Sunday, Detroit might need the depth at receiver that Billingsley provides as well as another kick returning option. The Lions also recently added wide receiver TJ Jones to the roster from the practice squad and activated him for Monday night’s game against Dallas.
