Detroit Lions news takes a look at an under-discussed aspect of the team’s updated visual identity: a slight lightening of their blue.
The Detroit Lions confirming the removal of black from the team’s color scheme, corresponding update to the logo and announcing four new uniforms to be unveiled in April has been much discussed. What hasn’t been so discussed is that removing black isn’t the only change to the color scheme.
The other change is more subtle, but apparently a change nonetheless.

To see for myself, I checked the current blue color used on the team’s website compared to an archived version of the site from before the logo change. While what I found didn’t seem as drastic, there is a slight lightening from the previous blue.

It’s a subtle enough change that most probably won’t notice without a side by side comparison but it’s interesting the Lions have done this. Removing black was already a (positive) step to the past, perhaps this another? A lighter shade of blue hearkens back to the Barry Sanders era.
