With the Detroit Lions set to take on the Arizona Cardinals in week 1 of the 2017 NFL Season, here is all the important info you need for today’s game.

The wait is over as Detroit Lions regular season football is finally back. The Lions look to get the season started off on the right foot with a home game against the Arizona Cardinals, who are coming off a down year after making an NFC Championship Game appearance in 2015.

The Cardinals embarassed the Lions in their trip to Ford Field in that 2015 season. The 42-17 defeat sent the Lions to 0-5 on the season, with Matthew Stafford getting benched in the process. Stafford threw three interceptions, but accounted for just half of the team’s six total turnovers on the day.

That game wasn’t all that long ago but it feels much further in the past because of what has transpired since. Joe Lombardi was fired as offensive coordinator, Jim Bob Cooter was promoted to take his place, Matthew Stafford turned into a different quarterback and is now the holder of the richest contract in NFL history.

A much different result than the last time the Cardinals came to Detroit will go a long way in keeping bad memories in the past. The Lions have started the season slowly in each of the last two years, even with a week one win a year ago. A win in week one doesn’t guarantee anything, but with a difficult early schedule, it could be what they need to make sure this season doesn’t go off the track too early.
