Detroit Lions: Wikipedia might be Zach Zenner’s biggest fan
By Zac Snyder
Would you say Zach Zenner has made a notable impression as a member of the Detroit Lions? Wikipedia seems to think he has.
It didn’t take long for Detroit Lions running back Zach Zenner to become a fan favorite, or at least a cult hero to some fans. He quickly became a training camp darling during his first NFL camp in 2015.
Zenner is an easy guy to root for so it makes sense. He’s a small school kid who was highly productive at South Dakota State but the 2015 NFL Draft came and went without Zenner’s name being called. Probably a huge disappointment for a guy who put medical school on hold so he could pursue his NFL dreams.
He latched on as an undrafted free agent with the Lions, won a regular season roster spot and has now completed three NFL seasons. He even spent part of his offseason participating in medical research projects.
But would you say his career has been notable?
Wikipedia would. The Wikipedia page for each NFL Draft concludes with a section titled “Notable undrafted players”, in which they include Zenner for 2015.
To be fair, Zenner’s career has been more notable than at least a few players the Lions did draft in 2015, such as Alex Carter (third round), Gabe Wright (fourth round), Michael Burton (fifth round) and Corey Robinson (seventh round).
Zenner has spent most of his career buried on the depth chart, sometimes finding himself inactive on game day. But Zenner was one of the few bright spots late in the 2016 season as the Lions backed into the playoffs with three straight losses to close out the regular season.

Zenner’s future with the Lions is cloudy right now as he’s set to become a restricted free agent. Regardless of what happens, he has a bright future even if it doesn’t include football.
