3. Can Miles Killebrew transition to linebacker?

More from Detroit Lions

To everyone’s surprise, Miles Killebrew moved from his natural safety position to linebacker. The crowded safety corps and the reports of his struggles in camp; it was going to be tough for Killebrew to crack the roster. Killebrew is a special teams ace and the coaches wanted to try to find a way to keep him on the roster. So the move has some merit to it.

The linebacker corps is lacking depth and because of it players who should be on the roster bubble are finding ways to make the roster. The biggest problem that has plagued Lion linebackers for a little bit now is their coverage skills. Killebrew’s coverage abilities playing safety should be able to bring a nice light to a dark problem if he is able to stick with the linebackers. If he is able to make a smooth transition to a new position and prove his versatility, he could revive his roster status.

Killebrew did not play all that much against the Raiders. Overall, he only played seven snaps and saw limited reps during practice. It will be nice to see him get more snaps versus the Giants to see what he can bring as a linebacker. By the looks of it, this move is Killebrew’s last chance. Especially for how late this move was in training camp. Keep your eye on him to see if he can make this swap or this could be the end of the road for Killebrew.
