Now, the stuff that will make you absolutely sick to your stomach.  Remember at the beginning of the article I mentioned that overall it was a disaster of an evening? Here is why;

There has always been the preseason debate.  Why are teams’ playing their starters in games that don’t matter?  Can’t players get enough work in during practice?

More from Detroit Lions

Many fans are asking themselves or on a social media rant about it right about now, especially after what transpired last night for the Detroit Lions.  Starting middle linebacker Jarrad Davis was rolled up on last night.  He was carted off the field into the Lions locker room.  Clearly discouraged, in pain, surrounded by teammates before he left signals a potentially devastating injury.

Davis was poised to have a breakout season with the Detroit Lions.  He put on roughly 20-pounds of muscle this offseason. He has the speed to go sideline to sideline although that isn’t nearly as important in Matt Patricia’s defense where simply positioning is critical.

The Detroit Lions bolstered their defensive line this summer by adding Trey Flowers, and Mike Daniels to an already stout group.  All middle linebackers say, the bigger and better the defensive line, the better.  It prevents the offensive line from getting to the next level to block the linebackers.  If the linebackers are unblocked, they can fly to the football freely and make a play.  The injury doesn’t appear minor, and that’s a shame for Davis who was prepared to feast this season behind one of the best D-line’s in all of football.

While the Davis injury is unamusing, losing center, Frank Ragnow is disastrous. The Detroit Lions decided to move Ragnow back to center where he thrived in college.  The move balanced out a mediocre offensive line. He appeared to injury his right knee last night.  As he was helped off of the field, he was unable to put any weight on it.

Many suggest Ragnow will become if not the best, one of the best centers in all of football.  Something the Lions have desperately needed for quite some time. Ragnow is the teams’ best lineman, and the 23-year old has yet to reach his full potential.

The Detroit Lions already had a notable hole to fill at left guard, with Ragnow injured the team is forced to slide Graham Glasgow from right guard back to center where he played last season.  That leaves gaping holes now at LG and RG.  The Lions will likely have to fill those positions with Joe Dahl and Kenny Wiggins.  Scary…actually terrifying.  Let’s hope the apparent knee injury suffered by Ragnow looked worse than it actually is.

We should hear more about these injuries as early as today, but remember, Matt Patricia doesn’t usually disclose more than he has to in regards to injuries.
