Detroit Tigers 2020 MLB Draft: Colt Keith selected in fifth round
By Tyler Kotila
The Detroit Tigers have finished out their 2020 MLB Draft selecting Colt Keith 132nd overall.
In the fifth round of the 2020 MLB Draft, the Detroit Tigers selected high school talent Colt Keith with the 132nd overall pick. The Tigers closed out their draft class selecting only position players, now Keith does have some abilities as a two-way but was brought in as a third baseman.
Keith is a high school talent from Mississippi, where he managed to take home the award for Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year. Keith is a third baseman who played shortstop in high school but fits as more of a third baseman build as he progresses towards the big leagues.
Looking at his vital stats, Keith is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound infielder who swings the bat from the left side of the plate. In 2019, Keith hit .527 with eight home runs, which earned him the honor listed above for Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year award.

Strangely enough, the Tigers seem to have found a pipeline with Arizona State University as they have selected two Sun Devils players in this five-round draft.
Keith is committed to playing his college ball for the Sun Devils, and oddly enough was selected by the Tigers.
Do the Tigers have some sort of connection with the Arizona State Sun Devils program? Six picks later; it seems that they might after seeing three of the picks have ties to the Sun Devils.
Keith is more of a long term investment, being that he was selected out of high school. The Tigers may be looking to plant some stakes with Keith and show interest, whether they sign him and add him to the system or seek him out after his time with the Sun Devils.
However, he is another way the Tigers made moves so that they had a successful and productive 2020 MLB Draft. After two days of selections, the draft has concluded, and the attention turns for undrafted free agents.
Keith’s selection is the Detroit Tigers parting move with the 2020 MLB Draft, until next year… time for the kids to begin their development paths.
