Detroit Lions make a statement by trading for Everson Griffen
By Tyler Kotila
The Detroit Lions have traded for Everson Griffen from the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a conditional draft pick, proving to be trade deadline buyers.
The Detroit Lions are 3-3 after a two-game win streak that leaves them at .500; as they continue on through the 2020 season, they can try to make a push for the playoffs. The organization just pulled off a deal that brings the defensive end, Everson Griffen, to the Lions in exchange for a conditional sixth-round draft choice.
After ten years in a Minnesota Vikings uniform, Griffen was a sought after free agent this past offseason. The hope was that the Lions would target Griffen, but Bob Quinn dropped the ball on that one.
To redeem himself, he pulled off a deal with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, striking a deal for the defensive end. Jones has been known to make some flashy moves as Dak Prescott heads to the sidelines, and Andy Dalton likely on the injured list for concussion protocol; Jones might be gearing up to trade for a quarterback.

However, the focus for the Lions is their new defensive end. With the Vikings, Griffen had 74.5 sacks, with 16 of those coming against the Lions.
This season in a Cowboys uniform, Griffen has played in seven games, registering 2.5 sacks, six quarterback hits, ten solo tackles, 20 combo tackles, and three tackles-for-loss.
The news broke from Ian Rapoport on Twitter:
According to a tweet from Kyle Meinke, the news was broken to Lions defensive coordinator Corey Undlin who was reportedly on a zoom call with reporters. The Lions will not be able to have Griffen suit up in Sunday’s contest against the Indianapolis Colts due to COVID-19 protocols.
This means Griffen’s first contest in a Lions uniform will come against some familiar faces since his debut will likely be November 8th against the Vikings.
Griffen adds to the Lions defense as they look to truly change the narrative and remain hot and possibly go on a run to get into the postseason hunt.
