Michigan State Spartans hockey defeats #10 Ohio State Buckeyes in overtime.

The Spartans hockey team traveled to Columbus to play the #10-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes at the Schottenstein Center. Ohio State is not off to a great start on the year, starting 0-3-0, while Michigan State has started the year 2-0-1.  The first period ended without any scoring, neither side able to find the back of the net. However, as the game went on, the scoring would come.

The Buckeyes struck first and went up 1-0 with a goal by defenseman Grant Gabriele.  Shortly after, the Spartans would score twice in the same period to take a 2-1 lead. Forwards Charlie Combs and Adam Goodsir would each find the back of the net for these two Spartans goals.

Ohio State forward Travis Treloar would end up scoring a goal in the third, tying the game and sending it into overtime. Michigan State would end up winning the game in overtime when forward Nicolas Müller scored the winning goal.

Michigan State has one more contest left against Ohio State before they return to East Lansing. Their rival Wolverines have been riding the hot start of a trio of freshmen early on in 2020, and the Spartans are looking to remain competitive.

After their last bout with the Buckeyes, the Spartans will have six games remaining on their Big-Ten only (plus Arizona State University) schedule as it stands. More games could be announced, but the Spartans will look to roll some momentum along through these next six games after a hopeful, 3-0-1 start.
