By Tyler Kotila
The Detroit Lions have traded Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams, as Adam Schefter reported on Twitter. The deal is reported to have the Lions sending Stafford to the Rams in exchange for quite the package.
The Detroit Lions are taking home two future first-round draft picks, a third-round pick, and Jared Goff. It was recently reported that the Lions and Stafford were going to part ways after the new regime was officially announced.
The rumor is that the Lions had seven or eight different trade offers for their franchise quarterback. But after twelve seasons in a Lions uniform, Stafford will be moving on and heading to Los Angeles.
So far this offseason, the Lions have brought in Brad Holmes to be the organization’s new general manager, which replaces Bob Quinn, who was fired during the 2020 season. But Holmes is reunited with Goff after the organization has acquired him in this blockbuster trade.

The Lions have turned a new page in the organization. It sucks to say, but after so many years of reliance on Stafford being “the guy,” the Lions are handing the keys to the offense over to Goff.
Stafford is a 32-year old quarterback, soon to be 33 years old., but he is now headed to the Rams organization.
On the other hand, Goff is a 26-year old quarterback who has spent his first five years with the Rams organization after being selected first overall during the 2016 NFL Draft.
The Lions are entering their “rebuild” even though the rebuild is going to be on the fly.
Rather than tearing things down and starting from scratch, the Lions are going to rebuild but keep the pieces that they feel will fit. For example, recently hired head coach, Dan Campbell, wants to keep wide receiver Kenny Golladay, according to recent tweets.
Based on the recent news, the Lions are going to have Jared Goff as their play-caller for the 2021 season. Expect the Detroit Lions to be a much different team than they were during the 2020 season, between the new regime and the offseason moves.
