The Detroit Tigers possess the third overall pick in the 2021 MLB First-Year Amateur Player Draft. This pick may just be another top talent added into the mix for the team, but that is not the case. This pick could be a huge addition for the Tigers as they continue to limp through this rebuild.

The Detroit Tigers are currently an abysmal 8-21 and dead last in the leaguewide standings. This rebuild is painful, incredibly painful. It’s tough to watch the Tigers struggle in pretty much every area that they can.

Anyone banging the “A.J. Hinch is a cheater” trash can might want to eat their words. If this is Hinch’s method of “cheating,” then they better be headed for a 133 game win streak or something close to it.

But back in reality, the 2021 season is going to be a continued dumpster fire and be tough to watch. This upcoming third overall pick is going to be crucial for the longevity of this rebuild. Currently, it seems as if the rebuild may last an eternity, but adding another impactful prospect could change things.

The Detroit Tigers need to get this third overall pick right for the sake of this rebuild.

There is a lot of exciting talent at the top of the draft. With two Vanderbilt University pitchers leading the way, the Tigers might be able to add in a player to help jumpstart things.

While the drafted player will not put on a Tigers uniform for 2-3 years at the earliest, they could be crucial to helping the team.

Originally, it seemed like the Tigers were finally starting to get things going and turn a corner.

The monumental call-up last season of Casey Mize, Isaac Paredes, and Tarik Skubal seemed like it marked something.

However, the reality was that the Tigers would send Paredes back down and keep him in the minors for 2021 (for now), and Mize would beat out a struggling Skubal for a spot in the rotation.

Bringing in another top talent to boost the team as the rebuild (ideally) starts changing would be more than ideal. The first pick being a strong addition to the farm system means a lot to the Tigers rebuild.

Currently, 2020 first overall selection Spencer Torkelson is working his way to the big leagues with Riley Greene as they will look to be the “Bash Brothers” for this organization. But, there is no telling when they will get to the big leagues.

Bringing in top talents to add to the list of guys still looking to crack the big leagues is going to be incredibly crucial for the Detroit Tigers. This summer, they need to make an exceptional pick at third overall.
