The Detroit Lions have received their 2021 NFL schedule as they were unveiled across the league today. Similar to last year’s schedule reveal, there are a few key match-ups to take a look at for the Lions faithful.

In a year where the Detroit Lions are engulfed in a wholesale change from the front office down to the coaches and players. With General Manager (GM) Brad Holmes calling the shots upstairs and head coach Dan Campbell running things on the field, things are changing around the Lions organization.

Now, after a big draft from the new regime, the Lions now know their schedule for the upcoming season. With plenty of interesting match-ups, there are four that really stand out and will be interesting.

For now, take a look at the Lions schedule as it stands:

Take a look at four key match-ups in the Detroit Lions 2021 NFL Schedule.

First up, opening night on September 12th against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Detroit Lions will open things up against the San Francisco 49ers, who recently selected quarterback Trey Lance in the 2021 NFL Draft. The Lions will have Jared Goff under center after some speculated they would take a quarterback if the opportunity were there.

Obviously, the Lions hit a home run with Penei Sewell, but it will be interesting to see how Lance performs against the 49ers. This is a “key” match-up because the Lions fanbase will get to see what type of product Campbell and his new regime puts out on the field.

The 49ers are coming off a 6-10 season in 2020, where they were last in the NFC West Division. In their last five match-ups, the Lions have dropped four of the five games to the 49ers, with the most recent win coming in December of 2015, a few days before 2016.
