Detroit Red Wings’ Donovan Sebrango, who spent 2020-21 in Grand Rapids.

Another prospect to keep an eye out for is somewhat of a newcomer to the Detroit Red Wings organization. Donovan Sebrango was selected during the 2020 NHL Entry Draft amid the pandemic.

He went on to sign his entry-level contract, and he spent time with the Griffins during the 2020-21 AHL season. It was a tough scene for Sebrango, who was making the jump from the Kitchener Rangers of the OHL into the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Sebrango was given an amateur tryout in 2020-21 and ultimately made it, which is why he spent his time with the Grand Rapids Griffins. The stats may not jump off the paper, but the development he will get by getting into the AHL early is going to be exciting.

In 31 games, Sebrango had just four assists to his credit. The 19-year old projects as a two-way defenseman, but he’s very raw and in need of time to develop. Making the jump last year was a big step for the former third-round pick of the Red Wings.

While his second year may not see exponential improvements, he’s someone to watch and see how he handles adversity in his second season in the AHL. It’s going to be another year of a heavy focus on his development, and that will start in training camp.

Fans should keep an eye on Sebrango to see how he looks in camp and get an idea of how that could translate into his sophomore season with the Griffins.
