Detroit Tigers: Jackson Jobe is a dream come true for Chris Fetter
By Tyler Kotila
The Detroit Tigers selected high-school pitcher Jackson Jobe with the third overall pick in the 2021 MLB June Amateur Draft this summer. While some fans were fuming that the organization passed on prep shortstop Marcelo Mayer, but Jobe is still an incredible prospect.
Fans should buy into Jobe and what he could be for the Detroit Tigers in the future. Providing that pitching coach Chris Fetter is still around, it will be a dream come true for both him and Jobe. While Fetter may not get his hands on Jobe as a part of his staff for some time, it will be exciting when he finally makes it.
While it’s going to take some time for Jobe to make it to the big leagues as he is coming out of high school, there should be a lot of excitement for his development track and what he could pan out to be.
Given that Fetter is coming from the NCAA ranks before his time with the Tigers, he should be trying to play a role in Jobe’s development plan. He’s got a long road ahead, but Jobe is going to be one of Fetter’s favorite projects.
Detroit Tigers prospect Jackson Jobe is a dream for Chris Fetter.
Jobe has a four-pitch repertoire, but his fastball and slider are what Fetter is going to be excited about. If there was any prospect from this past draft class who can spin it, Jobe is that guy. He has an elite slider who can get up into the 3,000 RPM range and even be above it.
It has great sweep to it and is an exceptional pitch to mow down hitters. He also has a fastball that can get up into the mid-90s and has carry to it. He’s able to locate it well and dominate hitters. The fastball/slider combo is what Fetter loves to work with($).
He has been able to work with guys on the MLB roster and grow their pitch mix. Fetter has made strides with this pitching staff and having someone he can develop (by proxy) in Jobe; there’s a lot to be excited about.
If Jobe can fine-tune and develop his pitch mix as he works towards the big leagues, he’s going to be a phenomenal addition to this organization. Jobe, who stands 6-foot-2, 190-pounds, is going to benefit a lot from Fetter’s coaching.
Any Tigers fan should be excited to see what happens with Jobe and his development path, knowing that Fetter is going to have his ideal pitcher on his way to Detroit. It may be a few years, but Fetter will get to mold Jobe into the ace or number two that this team is looking for.
Not to mention Casey Mize will be cruising through competition as the team’s number one arm.
