The Detroit Tigers would benefit from adding a veteran like Brad Hand.

The way that things stand right now, if the Detroit Tigers are really trying to label themselves as contenders, who is going to be the player to give the ball to? If the Tigers are in a high-leverage situation like a wildcard game, they need a veteran to come in and get the job done.

One of the players who comes to mind is Brad Hand, a southpaw veteran reliever who was an all-star back in 2019. He spent time with three organizations during the 2021 season and was not perfect, but the Tigers could take a chance on him.

Hand totaled 68 appearances with 21 saves, where he accumulated 64.2 innings pitched. He would post a 3.90 ERA, a 1.27 WHIP, and collected 61 strikeouts in the process. While I would not expect Hand to come in and be a closer who racks up 40+ saves en route to another all-star appearance.

However, the Tigers need veteran depth, and someone like Hand would be worth exploring. After the addition of Javier Báez and not Carlos Correa on a mega-deal, the organization has some leeway to fill out the rest of their roster comfortably. This includes spending some money to increase the value of their bullpen.

As it stands, there is no postseason or big-game experience from their backend guys; adding in a player like Hand would allow that to change.
