3 players that need to step-up for the Detroit Red Wings right now
By Tyler Kotila
The Detroit Red Wings are on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs. Being a favorite and expecting they will make it is an unpopular opinion. However, things keep changing for this team, and it looks more and more like they might just go out there and shock everyone.
Things keep clicking for this team, but there are still some areas to improve upon. The Detroit Red Wings are firing on all cylinders at times but certainly have areas that they could clean up to try and really make this playoff push that sounded like a pipe dream four months ago.
It’s not to say they won’t get swept in the first round or barely scratch their way in with a wildcard spot, but it’s not impossible to think they cannot hang on and find a way to disrupt the standings. However, it is going to take effort and things to be clicking all across the board for the Red Wings.
They’re far from a perfect hockey team, but the team that General Manager (GM) Steve Yzerman has built is astounding. With some fine-tuning and players getting a little kick in the butt, things could wind up turning out quite nicely.
Yzerman has built himself a contender, and the road ahead is going to be an exciting one; there is no doubt about that. The question is if the Red Wings will be able to get everything on track and get the team to the postseason this year or if the window of competition is not going to open until next year.
Players are going to have to step it up. Captain Dylan Larkin said he wants to play meaningful games in the Spring; well, it’s time that this team bans together and makes it happen then.
