The Detroit Lions biggest question mark when it comes to offensive depth is how the franchise will manage the backup quarterback position. With changes to the offensive line it is more important than ever to have a reliable second option. Kyle Allen and Hendon Hooker have both looked shaky at times, leaving room to wonder if Detroit made the right decision at QB.

Adding to this is the recent return of former Detroit backup Teddy Bridgewater. It seemed the veteran backup had retired, focused on a career in coaching. However, when things didn't go as planned, Bridgewater signed with the Tampa Bay Bucs to sit behind Baker Mayfield. Already, Bridgewater's presence and energy are making a difference for Tampa.

The quarterback is the perfect energy to bring to an underdog offense that remains an underrated NFC contender. It is easy to become frustrated that it wasn't the Lions that opted to bring back the veteran. There would be far less concern about the backup position and a level of confidence that Detroit could survive a game or two without its star quarterback. Regardless, it is great to see the veteran's career continue.

Former Lions Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater has Found Perfect Landing Spot in Tampa Bay

Bridgewater is a nice balance to Mayfield's swagger, giving the group a far better depth chart. For the Bucs, this is a key season as they play in what is easily the worst division in the NFC. Anything short of a division crown and a playoff win is going to be a frustration. Bridgewater fits into this simply as a source of leadership and an emergency option.

It will be interesting to see what is left in the tank for the veteran in preseason action. While the Lions were only able to give the veteran practice reps throwing the football, it appeared the quarterback was still an ideal option. Even with the extended time off, this is unlikely to have changed for the former Lion.

The early fit does serve as a reminder that the Lions could still go out and improve at the position. Whether it is signing Carson Wentz, or looking at possible trade options, it is impossible to believe an upgrade isn't out there.

As durable as Goff has been, the franchise needs to prepare for the worst, and this means finding an upgrade they have now lost with Bridgewater, who fits perfectly in Tampa Bay.
