Participating in this year's Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, the Detroit Tigers were forced to start their training camp last week in Allen Park, MI. Practices are already underway as veterans and rookies alike compete for the limited 53-man roster spots, highlighting the importance for each player to perform as flawlessly as possible to remain in the mix.

As head coach Dan Campbell's squad continues to duke it out, some Lions fans have been keeping up with what ex-Detroit players are up to. While some of them are still on the outside looking in when it comes to training camp, one former Lion just landed a new opportunity to extend his NFL career.

Former Lions RB Jemar Jefferson Signs with Titans Amid Training Camp

On Wednesday afternoon, KRPC 2 Houston's Aaron Wilson reported that the Tennessee Titans are signing former Detroit Lions running back Jemar Jefferson. The ex-2021 seventh-round pick finally has a new deal in place after being unemployed following a 2024 campaign spent on Detroit's practice squad.

The Lions are the only NFL team that the former Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year has known, making it interesting to see how he gels with the Titans. The ex-Lion is now the sixth name in Tennessee's backfield this summer, joining the likes of Tyjae Spears, Tony Pollard, Kalel Mullings, Jordan Mims, and Julius Chestnut.

Jefferson's odds of landing a spot on the Titans' roster will hinge on his training camp performance. The Los Angeles native was sparingly used during his Lions tenure, recording 21 carries for 96 rushing yards and two touchdowns, as well as five catches for 33 receiving yards in nine games (48 offensive snaps). That simply isn't good enough to award him an automatic roster spot.

The good news for Jefferson is that the Titans' backfield is far from the most imposing. While Spears and Pollard are likely locks for the top two RB spots, Mullings has yet to play a snap in the NFL, while Mims and Chestnut only have 51 combined carries between them, potentially opening the door for Jefferson to compete for the RB3 role.

Much like other former Lions, Detroit fans will want to monitor Jefferson's status as training camp continues. A strong camp showing followed by a decent preseason performance could be enough for him to crack the Titans' 53-man roster when all is said and done.
