The Detroit Lions are set to suit up in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday, July 31. That led to the Lions opening training camp earlier than the other teams in the league, and there are several players looking to take a jump in 2025.
The Lions roster is loaded, and second-year cornerback Terrion Arnold is already making plays in practice. During Tuesday's practice session, Arnold made a one-handed interception in a 1 vs. 1 rep against star wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown. He then forced an incompletion when defending Jameson Williams.
During our PODD recap, I teased a Terrion Arnold one-handed INT during 1-on-1s.

The Lions just posted it—along with most the 1-on-1 drills—to their Instagram page.
Here’s that, plus a nice PBU from Arnold.

Lions CB Terrion Arnold Had Stellar Practice on Tuesday
Detroit is looking for Arnold to step up this year ahead of his sophomore campaign. This offseason, the Lions saw Carlton Davis leave in free agency to sign with the New England Patriots before adding D.J. Reed on a three-year, $48 million deal.
The Lions used the 24th overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft on Arnold and are eager to see what he does in Year 2. Last season, he suited up in 16 games (15 starts) with 60 total tackles, 10 pass deflections, and one fumble recovery. Per Pro Football Focus, he posted a 51.5 overall grade (179th among 222 graded corners), 59.1 run-defense grade (140th among 222 graded corners), and a 50.4 coverage grade (176th among 222 graded corners).
Arnold has room for improvement, though, especially with the penalties. He committed 11 total fouls in 2024, with seven defensive pass interference calls, two defensive holding calls, and one face mask.
That area needs to improve, as he has the talent to be a good cornerback in this league if he can stay out of trouble. The Lions have Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch at safety, making things easier for Arnold. Having that caliber of defenders over the top gives cornerbacks more leeway and allows them to be more aggressive due to the trust in those guys.
The 22-year-old CB is going to have more on his plate, but the skillset to be dominant is there. In three seasons at Alabama, he posted 108 total tackles, 20 pass deflections, and six picks. These numbers, in combination with the film he put on tape, allowed the Lions to feel comfortable nabbing him in the first round. Now it's time to put everything together, and Tuesday's practice is a flash of that.
Playing next to the aforementioned Reed will only help him. Over the past three seasons with the Jets, Reed finished with at least a 70 overall and coverage grade per PFF, while securing 220 total tackles, 32 pass breakups, and two interceptions.
