The Detroit Lions are one of many teams in the league that are taking a couple of weeks off before training camp after wrapping up organized team activities (OTAs).

The 2025 season will be a bit different for the Lions, as they saw a ton of departures. That includes defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn leaving to become the head coach for the New York Jets. Glenn has since brought over coaches and players with him as he seeks to turn the organization around.

The Jets wrapped up minicamp on June 12 before training camp starts next month. Before that begins, it sounds like former Lions wide receiver Josh Reynolds is taking the lead in the WR2 competition.

Josh Reynolds Takes Lead in WR2 Competition With Jets

ESPN's Rich Cimini wrote on Monday, "Reynolds is the clear-cut favorite for the WR2 job, ahead of Allen Lazard, whose name will continue to circulate in trade rumors now that Rodgers has landed with the Steelers."

Reynolds signed a one-year deal that's worth up to $5 million with New York and seems poised to gain an edge in the receiver room. Outside of Garrett Wilson, the Jets don't have anyone locked into a spot, leaving plenty of targets available for the pickings.

Reynolds is someone who's spent nearly half his career playing in the Lions system. Between 2021-2023, he has reeled in 97 catches for 1,393 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, including 608 receiving yards in 2023.

He knows what the Lions like to run in the offensive game, and with ex-Detroit passing game coordinator Tanner Engstrand running the show as the Jets' offensive coordinator, it makes sense why Reynolds is sticking out.

Training camp is the next step where the Jets will get a closer look at their 2025 roster. With pads slated to come on and Glenn expected to put the New York through a physical training camp, Reynolds will have more than enough opportunities to establish his place in the WR rotation.
