Detroit Pistons fans are excited to see what the front office has in store for the upcoming NBA offseason. The Pistons are heading into the summer looking to take their roster to the next level after a 44-win performance culminated in the franchise's first playoff appearance since the 2018-19 campaign.
The 2025 NBA draft will be the first stop on the Pistons' offseason journey, followed by the start of free agency on July 6. Detroit must first assess its own expiring contracts before adding outside help, as the franchise has five veterans slated to become unrestricted free agents next month. While some of those names might be re-signed, others won't.
When it comes to Pistons potentially being shown the door, there's a good chance one veteran is currently spending his final month in the Motor City.
June Will Be Paul Reed's Last Month With Pistons
There's a good chance that Paul Reed will be one of the pending UFAs won't be re-signed in the coming weeks.
Reed, 25, has been with the Pistons since he was claimed off waivers last July after starting his NBA career with the Philadelphia 76ers. The former DePaul product was a reliable rotational piece throughout his time in Philadelphia, and took his game to the next level in 2023-24 when he averaged career highs in points (7.3), rebounds (6.0), blocks (1.0), and three-point percentage (36.8%).
Unfortunately, Reed often didn't look like that player last season with the Pistons. He sparsely played throughout the 2024-25 campaign, averaging 9.7 minutes per game across 45 bench appearances. He struggled to stay in the lineup and was even waived in December before being re-signed to a cheaper contract.
By the time the regular season ended, Reed only averaged 4.1 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.9 steals, and .507/.286/.762 shooting splits. Although his field-goal efficiency increased from 50.7% to 62.5% in the playoffs; however, his 2.8 PPG clip left Pistons fans feeling like the veteran center failed to meet expectations.
Offseason additions don't always work out, and Reed's time with the Pistons is one example of that. Even if he's willing to stay in Detroit on a discounted contract, chances are the 25-year-old veteran will be playing his next game at Little Caesars Arena as a visitor.
