Key Lion Snubbed From Pro Bowl
The Detroit Lions are one of the top teams in the NFL in 2024. Thus, players on both offense and defense have earned the right to be selected for the Pro Bowl. Nevertheless, there is bound to be a player or two that have had a great season that got snubbed.
On Thursday morning, the Lions announced their 2025 Pro Bowlers via Twitter/X. Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, Penei Sewell, Frank Ragnow, Jack Fox, and Brian Branch all earned Pro Bowl honors.
While each of those players certainly deserves their Pro Bowl nominations, one key Lion defender who should have also earned a Pro Bowl selection didn't: free safety Kerby Joseph.
Lions News: Kerby Joseph snubbed from 2025 Pro Bowl
Heading into Week 18, Joseph leads the league in interceptions with nine and has 77 tackles on the season. Joseph has been top two in interceptions all season, which has helped the Lions struggling defense mightily. At one point in the year, Branch and Joseph were one and two in the league in interceptions.
That said, according to Adam Schefter, Xavier McKinney of the Green Bay Packers was selected over Joseph for the Pro Bowl team.
Although none of the opposing NFC North fans want to admit it, McKinney has had a great season. After leaving the New York Giants this offseason, McKinney has put together a campaign with seven interceptions, 84 tackles and one sack. McKinney's seven interceptions put him in second place for most interceptions on the season.
Early in the season, the interception leader was flipping weekly between McKinney and Joseph. McKinney began the season with an interception in each of the first five games. While the steak didn't last, McKinney continued to play well.
Even though Joseph didn't get the spot, he might be more deserving than McKinney. Joseph has been the anchor for what has become a completely decimated Lions defense. Whereas McKinney is still playing around a very talented defense in Green Bay.
Instead, the Packers defender got the spot, maybe because fans were reluctant to vote in too many Lions (the team was second in the NFL with seven other Pro Bowlers). While that may not seem fair, that's just how the cookie crumbles when you have such a talented team.
