Lions Levy Major Punishment to Fan Who Was Ejected From Packers Game
There was no shortage of drama in Week 14 when the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers met for their highly anticipated rematch. The energy ahead of this game was palpable, with players chirping on both sides ahead of kickoff and setting the stage for an intense Thursday night showdown.
To their credit, Lions fans were just as amped as anyone else entering this contest. In the case of one diehard, Fahad Yousif, he may have gotten a little carried away, though. After helping hold the flag on the field during pregame festivities, Yousif ended up getting into a shouting match with Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur that was caught by cameras.
He was asked to leave the facility before halftime as well, so he didn't get to watch the thrilling end to Thursday's 34-31 win from the seat he has season tickets for. And now it turns out Yousif's punishment is going even further.
According to Woodward Sports Network podcast host @SpeakEZsports_, the Lions sent an email to Yousif stating that, his season tickets have been revoked "at this time" and his eligibility to be a Lions Loyal Member "has been suspended indefinitely." This is due to Yousif violating the Guest Code of Conduct policy, which notes the team "will not tolerate illegal or disruptive behavior" during any game.
This is an unfortunate outcome for Yousif, who told FOX 17 he's been a Detroit diehard since the age of 10 and the team is one of the few things in life he truly loves. In that interview, he also revealed this wasn't the first time he's been on the field for the flag ceremony and talked trash to the opposing team, but this incident invoked a strong reaction from LaFleur and Green Bay's sideline.
LaFleur also talked about his interaction with Yousif during his postgame press conference, which only put more of a spotlight on the now-former season ticket holder, especially since the Packers' head coach called out the "throat slash" gesture Yousif made toward their sideline.
Yousif has since shown remorse, especially in regards to the gesture. He admitted to FOX that he "got caught up in the moment, and the fans, and the adrenaline and stuff."
This unenviable situation is a harsh reminder to Lions fans attending games at Ford Field to not go a step too far, or they may suffer the consequences.
