Lions Select Perfect Complement for Aidan Hutchinson in Latest Mock Draft
The Detroit Lions are an elite team in the NFL, as they own a 12-1 record, including 11 straight wins. On Thursday Night Football, the Lions beat the Green Bay Packers 34-31 and have clinched a playoff berth.
Detroit looks like a serious Super Bowl contender and has all the talent needed to bring home that Vince Lombardi trophy. While the attention for Lions fans is on the 2024 season, the discussion surrounding the 2025 offseason has begun.
The Ringer's Danny Kelly released a first-round mock draft and had the Lions adding the perfect running mate for Aidan Hutchinson on the defensive line.
In this mock, the Lions have the 32nd overall pick and they selected EDGE Landon Jackson from the University of Arkansas.
Kelly wrote, "The Razorbacks standout plays with tenacity and a high motor on the edge and uses his long arms to control opponents while swiping, ripping, and dipping to get under and around blocks. This style of play would be a nice fit in Dan Campbell’s defense."
Jackson is listed at 6-foot-7 and weighs 280 pounds. He has excellent length and strength that allows him to move linemen in the run game. He uses his sound play recognition skills to find the ball carrier while using his active hands as a pass rusher.
In his collegiate career, Jackson has notched 116 total tackles, 28 tackles for loss, 16 sacks, and five pass deflections.
Adding this kind of player to the defensive front would be a great addition for the Lions. Hutchinson is a bonafide superstar for Detroit and is one of the top pass rushers in the league. Before going down with a broken tibia and fibula in Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys, the Michigan product was on his way to a monster campaign.
He had 19 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, and 7.5 sacks. Adding another capable force on the opposite side will open things up for the 24-year-old, which would have ripple effects on the defense.
The Lions are currently 22nd in the league in team sacks (31), so getting a player like Jackson will create more havoc.
