The Detroit Lions had a shockingly dominant practice performance over the Miami Dolphins on Wednesday morning. While most beat writers penned how dominant the Lions looked on both sides of the ball, one of the biggest stars in the practice was receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.
St. Brown is one of the league’s most dominant receivers, coming off Pro Bowl appearances in each of the past three seasons. If that wasn’t enough for Lions fans to think the offense could survive as offensive coordinator Ben Johnson defected to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears this season, St. Brown fired up his own hype train by dissecting the Dolphins defense during Wednesday’s practice.

The Lions star’s dominance could be summed up in a post by The Athletics Colton Pouncy. Pouncy spent most of his day watching the defense but noted that every time the crowd cheered, he looked up to see St. Brown celebrating a big play.
That was the theme for the Lions offense who used St. Brown to embarrass the Dolphins' secondary. WXYZ’s Brad Gali noted that St. Brown made “a wild, contested touchdown catch in team drills” before fighting off pass interference to grab another score. Pride of Detroit’s Al Karsten also noted that St. Brown beat Dolphins cornerback Jack Jones for back-to-back touchdowns in red zone drills, including a one-handed snag in the back of the end zone.
Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News posted that St. Brown also made a touchdown catch after pinning a pass against a Dolphins’ defender’s helmet.
While there are no official stats at practice, Karsten estimated that St. Brown may have caught 12 passes for over 250 yards if this were an actual game and St. Brown sounded like a man on a mission when he talked to reporters afterwards.
“For us as an offense, we just wanted to go out there and do what we do,” St. Brown said via Gali.

Few receivers have been as dominant as St. Brown since he entered the league in 2021. His 430 receptions is tied with Tyreek Hill for the lead dating back to his rookie season and he also ranks seventh with 4,851 yards and 33 receiving touchdowns.
Perhaps that’s why the Lions may not be concerned about Johnson’s departure knowing they have the weapons to make up for it. Jameson Williams is a deep threat on the opposite end while Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery work behind one of the league’s best offensive lines even with the retirement of Frank Ragnow.
But St. Brown brings most of the star power and could be the key to Detroit having another successful year on offense.
