The Detroit Lions are coming off a disappointing finish in each of the past two seasons but will use this offseason to try and get over the hump. While some of the improvement will be internal – including Aidan Hutchinson’s return from injury – there’s also several moves that can be made to ensure they’ll stay on top of the NFC next season.
One of the big moves they could make is trading for Myles Garrett. The Cleveland Browns star publicly requested a trade on Monday and his pass-rushing ability, which includes 102.5 career sacks, could give the Lions a deadly defensive line that could help Kelvin Sheppard’s defense in 2025.
Getting Garrett in a Lions uniform is a two-way street as he looks to win a Super Bowl. But the four-time All-Pro offered a small tease for fans as he went through radio row at the Super Bowl on Wednesday.
Myles Garrett Hasn’t Thought About Playing for the Lions…Yet
The Detroit Free Press’s Dave Birkett caught up with Garrett as he was walking around radio row. While he was not taking trade questions, Birkett asked if he had any thoughts on playing for the Lions to which he replied, “Not yet.”

The answer could be nothing, but it could be something. Garrett didn’t take the same approach that his former teammate Za’Darius Smith, publicly championing for a trade in order to stick it to his two former teams, the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions. But he also didn’t say he was against the idea of playing in Detroit, which has become a Super Bowl contender over the past two seasons.
The Lions’ rise also seems to fit into Garrett’s idea for a trade destination but he admitted he may not have a say in where he ends up during a Wednesday appearance on “The Rich Eisen Show.”
“There are definitely contenders on the AFC side, NFC side. I’m not glued to anyone at this certain moment, but like I said, I just want to be in a position to play in those big games and win big games and I feel like I can make a meaningful impact and elevate a team and take them over the top.”
With a roster that includes most of the core that helped them reach the NFC Championship Game in 2023 and claim the top seed in the NFC with a 15-2 record in 2024, the Lions seem to fit Garrett’s qualifications. But it will be a matter of time to see if it leads to a blockbuster deal.
