Earlier this week, the Detroit Pistons reportedly signed ex-Los Angeles Lakers two-way guard Quincy Olivari to a deal. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but given that we’re only days away from the start of training camp, Olivari’s deal was likely an Exhibit 10.

According to the NBA’s transaction log, the Pistons waived Olivari on Wednesday, which should open the door for him to join their G-League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise. The ex-Lakers guard can reportedly earn a bonus of $85,300 if he stays with the Cruise for 60-plus days.

The Pistons still have three other players on Exhibit 10 deals, but now have an open roster spot to sign someone else before training camp begins on Sept. 29.

Pistons Quickly Sent Quincy Olivari Packing Ahead of Training Camp

When it was reported that the Pistons signed Olivari, it was likely that he would get cut and join their G League affiliate. Detroit is stacked at the guard spot, led by Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey.

Olivari would have a tough time cracking the bottom of the 15-man roster, let alone trying to get a two-way deal, as two of those spots are occupied by guards (Daniss Jenkins and Colby Jones).

That said, if Olivari performs like he did in his rookie season in the G League with the South Bay Lakers, he could get another two-way deal in 2025-26.

The 24-year-old guard received a two-way contract from the Lakers last season after a fantastic showing in the preseason. However, he couldn’t keep it as Los Angeles eventually waived him in Janauary, but Olivari continued to ball out.

The former Los Angeles Laker averaged 17.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.2 steals in 31 games with South Bay. After the regular season ended, Olivari received an opportunity to play with the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA Summer League.

Nothing came of that opportunity after the summer league wrapped up, but it looks like he’ll get a chance to prove himself, possibly with Motor City. Since Olivari is not on a two-way deal, any team across the league can offer him a deal if he plays well in the G League this season.
