The Detroit Pistons finalized a sign-and-trade with the Sacramento Kings, which has sent veteran point guard Dennis Schroder back to the Western Conference in exchange for draft capital and a sizeable trade exception.
That return alone should make Schroder's time in the Motor City a success. The veteran guard was acquired by the Pistons during the 2024-25 campaign following the injury to Jaden Ivey and helped push Detroit into the postseason, ending the franchise's long drought, by leading the second unit.
Detroit Pistons Share Final Heartwarming Moment with Dennis Schroder
With Schroder off to Sacramento, the Pistons organization took the time to thank him for his contributions to the franchise and wish him well as his career moves forward with the Kings.
Schroder was quick to respond to the goodbye post from the Pistons' social media team, and he reiterated the love he has for Detroit, "DETROIT IT‘S LOVE!! ♥️❤️💯"
By all accounts, Schroder truly enjoyed his time in Detroit and was more than open to signing a new deal with the Pistons if the opportunity presented itself. With Ivey returning to the lineup alongside Cade Cunningham, the potential for Schroder returning next season seemed like a long shot.
While his stay with the organization was short-lived, Detroit made a clear impression on the veteran. That is a great sign for Trajan Langdon and the front office as they look to make last season's success the new normal in the Motor City.
A big part of roster building is the ability to attract talent to your city. For the longest time, the Pistons were viewed as more of a bottom-feeder than a true contender. The time is now for Detroit's front office to change that mindset when it comes to the Pistons.
The more veterans who see that the efforts made by Schroder were appreciated and valued, the better off they will be when it comes time to pursue these players in free agency.
