It was another uninspiring outing for the Michigan Wolverines but they got the win over Air Force. Who gets the game ball for today’s game?

Is it time to be concerned about the Michigan Wolverines‘ offense? It’s one thing to come out flat only to turn it on, and it’s certainly excusable to go through some growing pains early in a season. However, the Michigan offense wasn’t rolling through two games and didn’t get rolling in game number three against Air Force today.

Jim Harbaugh scoffed at questions about his quarterback situation but Wilton Speight was 14-of-23 for 169 yards and no touchdowns this afternoon. The running game was effective enough, averaging 4.5 yards per attempt, but whether through the air or on the ground, the Wolverines had a hard time ending drives with touchdowns.

Enter this week’s Michigan football game ball winner: kicker Quinn Nordin.

Michigan didn’t end a drive with an offensive touchdown until 1:02 remained in the game. However, the offense did mount five other scoring drives, all ended with field goals by Nordin. If not for a solid effort by the Michigan defense and Nordin going five-for-five on field goal attempts, a not-so-comfortable game could have been more uncomfortable.

In hitting five field goals, Nordin tied a school record for field goals in a game and bumped his season total up to 11. That’s already tenth on the school’s single-season record list and gives Nordin a legitimate shot at breaking Remy Hamilton’s single-season record of 25 field goals set in 1995.

It was a good day for the special teams overall. In addition to Nordin’s contributions, Freshman wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones got the Wolverines’ first touchdown on the day by taking a punt back 79 yards for a score.
